The Hovah West African Services Ltd and Adele Empowerment Foundation Consortium is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all staff, trainers, trainees, and visitors at the training centre. We recognize that proactive health and safety measures are essential for the effective delivery of our digital skills training programs and the well-being of everyone associated with the centre.
1. General Responsibilities
1.1 Management:
- Ensure compliance with national health and safety regulations.
- Provide necessary resources, equipment, and training to uphold health and safety standards.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
1.2 Trainers and Staff:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and report any hazards, accidents, or near misses promptly.
- Ensure trainees are informed about safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Use equipment safely and ensure it is in proper working condition.
1.3 Trainees:
- Follow all safety instructions and procedures as communicated during orientation and training sessions.
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents to staff immediately.
- Use training centre facilities responsibly and avoid engaging in risky behaviour.
2. Emergency Preparedness
2.1 Emergency Procedures:
- Clearly display emergency evacuation routes and assembly points.
- Conduct regular fire drills and emergency response simulations.
- Maintain accessible first aid kits and emergency equipment.
2.2 Emergency Contacts:
- Maintain an updated list of emergency contacts, including local fire, medical, and security services.
- Designate a Health and Safety Officer responsible for coordinating emergency responses.
3. Facility and Equipment Safety
3.1 General Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections of training facilities and equipment to ensure they are safe and functional.
- Address and resolve maintenance issues promptly to prevent accidents.
3.2 Electrical Safety:
- Ensure all electrical equipment is properly installed, labelled, and maintained.
- Provide surge protectors and backup power supplies where necessary.
3.3 Digital Equipment:
- Train users on the safe handling of computers, projectors, and other digital devices.
- Provide ergonomic furniture and tools to prevent strain-related injuries.
4. Health and Hygiene
4.1 Personal Hygiene:
- Promote good hygiene practices, including handwashing and the use of sanitizers.
- Ensure the availability of clean restrooms and handwashing stations.
4.2 Infection Control:
- Implement measures to prevent the spread of illnesses, such as regular disinfection of high-touch surfaces.
- Establish protocols for dealing with sick trainees or staff, including isolation areas if necessary.
4.3 Food Safety:
- Ensure any on-site food services adhere to food safety standards.
- Encourage trainees and staff to store and dispose of food responsibly.
5. Mental Health and Well-being
- Promote mental health awareness and provide access to resources or referrals for support.
- Encourage open communication to address stress, burnout, or other well-being concerns.
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that prioritizes respect and dignity.
6. Incident Reporting and Review
- Maintain an incident log to record details of all health and safety incidents.
- Conduct investigations into incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Review and update health and safety policies annually or as required.
Policy Review and Compliance
This policy will be reviewed annually or as required to ensure it meets legal requirements and reflects the needs of the consortium. All staff and trainees are required to familiarize themselves with this policy and adhere to its provisions.
